The Cruz-Diez Foundation is proud to have contributed to Frank Sinatra's new video for Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, released this past October 2021 as a tribute to those who had to leave their homes looking for a better life.

In partnership with Fantoons and Universal Music, the video directed by David Calcano and Ala Nunu includes an animated representation of Carlos Cruz-Diez's work Ambientación de Color Aditivo created in 1974 for Maiquetia's International Airport and tells the story of a Venezuelan immigrant starting a new life in a new city while being away from his family during the holiday season.
"To tell a story about the Venezuelan immigrant journey without Cruz-Diez' masterpiece Ambientación de Color Aditivo, 1974 would have been like a puzzle with many missing pieces. This legendary work of art has become an integral part of my life and every Venezuelan who is flying looking for a better future. Just by seeing it, this piece immediately injects a rush of memories that flow like the greatest movie trailers of all time. Only a magnificent work of art can do such a thing. I am deeply honored that the foundation allowed the use of this work for the official video of Frank Sinatra's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Maestro Cruz-Diez…thank you for coloring our memories with pure magic." - David Calcano, Founder and Creative Director at Fantoons Animation Studios.
Although this seminal piece has become a symbol of the Venezuelan diaspora, Cruz-Diez wished that one day, that work would become instead a symbol of returning home.
